the teacher's pet
the young gentleman
Checkers is certain to be a race favorite, not because of his lightning speed, but because he is dearly loved by everyone. With excellent manners, he’s the perfect pony to teach the fundamentals of good horsemanship. He especially loves for children to practice their grooming skills on him! Checkers is very good with young children who are ready to ride independently. Expect many to be cheering him on! Danny Boy is a handsome young 9 year old, who was donated to the HfH program in 2016.  His quiet temperament makes him ideal for therapy students looking to gain more independence. While quiet and gentle of spirit, this youngster has Thoroughbred bloodlines, giving him quite an advantage in the race!  With a little encouragement, expect Danny Boy to be an early front runner!
Jay Jay
the chunky monkey
rebel with a cause
Jay Jay is a Haflinger gelding who loves small children...and treats. He is charming and graceful despite his chunky size, and a patient teacher when helping children gain confidence around horses. He has been "training" for the race by trotting through the back fields. This has improved his endurance, his mood, and maybe even  his waistline! Zeus spent time fox hunting before arriving at Horses for Healing. A gentle giant in therapy classes, but when made to work otherwise...a little bit lazy. Allowed to do things his way, however, this bad boy can really perform! Look for him to take his time coming out of the gate but then to come on strong once he realizes there's a prize at stake!
Miss Congeniality

Pancho & Mojo
the odd couple

The only gal in a field of geldings, Sassy is ready for the challenge! Don’t let her name fool you - she is everyone's sweetheart! She began her therapeutic riding career in NY, then became a college equestrian program horse. While sweet and gentle with special needs kids, she loves, loves, loves to jump! Expect her to jump with a big lead out of the starting gate and give all the boys a run for their money! OK, they're not horses, but don't tell them they can't be part of the fun! Mojo and Pancho serve as the farm’s official welcoming committee in our front pasture. This adorable duo will run as a pair, as they stick together wherever they go! These two are a wild card, but they are convinced they have what it takes to beat their longer-legged cousins...will longer ears be an advantage in this race?

All funds will be used to feed and care for the horses used in Horses for Healing's therapeutic horsemanship program.
